Find Harrison County Court Dates

Start by figuring out which Harrison County court holds your case. No single office posts every Harrison County court schedule. Settings live with separate courts and clerks. Circuit, Family, Magistrate, municipal, and federal court each keep their own dockets in Clarksburg. Your newest paperwork, whether an order, summons, or citation, may show a date, but the clerk of that court can confirm what still stands. One more habit matters: check for a continuance or cancellation filed after your paperwork. A date once scheduled is not always a hearing still set to happen.

How the Harrison County Court Calendar Works

Harrison County does not post one combined calendar for the 19th Judicial Circuit, the 18th Family Court Circuit, Magistrate Court, and every municipal court. Access follows the court level. Circuit cases, plus public parts of Family Court, run through WVPASS. Magistrate cases go through the Magistrate Court Record Search. A city ordinance matter belongs to that city court or its clerk.

A calendar line is only a scheduling record. It may name a date, time, judge, courtroom, or event type. It does not prove the hearing happened or reveal the ruling. For that, read later Harrison County docket entries and any public order. When the trail is unclear, ask the right clerk.

Harrison County Uses Separate Calendars

Ask which court before asking when. The Harrison County Judiciary directory puts Circuit Court in the 19th Judicial Circuit. Family Court is its own circuit. Harrison and Doddridge Counties share the 18th Family Court Circuit. Magistrate Court keeps its own clerk. Its search path is separate too. A municipal ordinance case stays with the issuing city unless a later order moves it.

This is why a Harrison County search can come up empty while a valid setting sits in another system. Court level is part of the record itself, not a footnote.

Harrison County Court Date Lookups

Rely on the newest official source. Save the full setting details, not just the date. A printout from days ago may have been replaced by an amended order. Every Harrison County access route appears here.

  1. Identify the court from the case number, citation, summons, or last order. Do not assume every Clarksburg setting is a Circuit Court event.
  2. Search WVPASS for Circuit and public Family records, or the Magistrate Record Search for a magistrate case.
  3. For traffic, read the citation and use the Magistrate Court Payment System only as a case or payment check.
  4. Read the latest docket event and look for a later reset, continuance, cancellation, or amended notice.
  5. Call the Circuit Clerk at 304-624-8640 or Magistrate Clerk at 304-624-8645 when appearance is near or sources differ.
  6. Ask at the clerk counter about a paper file, public terminal, or clerk-assisted inspection when no setting appears online.
  7. For a city case, contact the issuing municipal court or city clerk. No statewide municipal calendar was located.

Offices accept records requests by mail, fax, or email, but the rules differ. Confirm the route before sending anything, especially payment.

Harrison County Calendar Contacts

Trust the state Judiciary directory over a county-hosted page. The two conflict on the Circuit Clerk's name and address. The state listing names Circuit Clerk Douglas Cornelius at Harrison County Courthouse, 301 West Main Street, Clarksburg, WV 26301-2967. It lists 304-624-8640 and fax 304-624-8710. Call before you drive. The clerk can confirm a Harrison County court date, the room, office hours, and any temporary relocation.

Family Court judges sit at 306 Washington Avenue, but access to family cases is limited. Route questions about a setting or record through the clerk, never the judge.

Court Settings: What Each Field Means

Copy each field exactly as shown. Near-identical labels can mean different things, and a setting is never a result. Read the Harrison County court record as a sequence, since later entries control earlier schedule lines when they conflict.

Date and timeThe scheduled start. Record the full date, local time, and any amended setting.
Court and locationCircuit, Family, Magistrate, municipal, or federal court, plus room if officially shown.
JudgeThe judicial officer assigned on the setting. Assignments may change.
Setting typeArraignment, motion, status, trial, sentencing, family hearing, or another event.
Case numberThe exact identifier linking the calendar item to the case record.
StatusScheduled, continued, canceled, held, submitted, or disposed.

Keep the notice or citation that gave you the date. If it clashes with a portal, ask the clerk which setting stands.

Harrison County Setting Terms

Calendar terms have exact meanings. Treating them as loose synonyms can lead you to the wrong conclusion about a Harrison County hearing.

Setting
A scheduled court event. It does not show that the event occurred.
Continuance
An order or action moving a proceeding to a later date.
Reset
A replacement setting, often shown after the prior date changes.
Canceled
The listed event will not proceed as posted; check for a new setting.
Held
An event recorded as having taken place, though the result may require an order.
Disposition
The way a case or charge ended, not merely a calendar status.

A traffic citation carries extra weight. Magistrate Criminal Procedure Rule 7 requires notice to answer or appear by a date certain. Keep the citation even after checking online.

When a Court Date Moves

A continuance, reset, cancellation, or amended order can replace an earlier Harrison County court date. Search in date order and read past the first event that shows a date. A cancellation may simply give way to a new setting. A continuance moves the hearing without ending the case. Neither word means dismissal.

A continuance request proves nothing by itself. The grant shows up in the court's order or a new docket setting. A missing case on a portal is not proof of cancellation either. The record may sit in another court. It may fall outside portal coverage, be restricted, or simply lack indexing.

When a date truly matters, confirm with the clerk. Go to the responsible Harrison County office close to the appearance.

Harrison County Calendar Traps

Jury call-in information is not a case calendar. The West Virginia jury page helps summoned jurors follow instructions. It does not list every Harrison County hearing. A jury term does not mean one named case will go to trial that day.

Municipal and federal settings sit outside the state county portals. Clarksburg, Bridgeport, Shinnston, Stonewood, and Salem each need a city contact for municipal matters. Federal cases run through PACER. The Northern District of West Virginia calendar and clerk channels also serve federal matters. The Harrison Circuit Clerk cannot certify a federal setting.

Missed Settings and What Comes Next

Missed a Harrison County court date? Move fast. Dig out the case number first. Then find the most recent order, citation, or summons before you do anything else. Then pull up the official docket. Look for a failure-to-appear entry, a new setting, a warrant-related event, or a default. A motion entry, remember, is a request and not a ruling. Read each line for what it actually does. Once you know what the docket shows, call the clerk handling the case. Ask for the current public status and the next listed setting. The clerk can tell you schedule facts. The clerk cannot advise which motion to file or what plea to enter.

Do not rely on an old calendar line. A missed setting can have case-specific effects. Verify the live docket and contact the court promptly.

Traffic matters live on the citation number. Keep that ticket and copy its exact identifier before anything else. In a civil case, look for a default or an order on the docket; that entry tells you whether the other side won by default or the case is still open. Family court records can be partly confidential. A thin public result does not mean nothing is happening. If you believe rights are at stake, get legal advice from an attorney rather than asking the clerk to interpret them.

Harrison County Calendar Technology

Technology has moved fast for Harrison County court records. CourtPLUS E-File arrived locally on February 13, 2023, then statewide on July 15, 2024. WVPASS followed on March 10, 2025. It offers free registered searching of publicly available Circuit records back to 1999. Both tools can surface docket events for a case, though CourtPLUS E-File serves authorized filers rather than standing in for a public calendar.

Expect some churn. Labels, result order, and links shift over time. A paper filing or nonstandard item may still sit with the clerk, and sealed, juvenile, and confidential family material remains restricted no matter what. When you save a setting, write down the case number, access date, court, and visible status. Those details let the Harrison County clerk sort out any later conflict.
